Tying the Hendrickson Parachute Style
Step-by-step tying tutorial - www.backyardangling.com/post/tying-the-hendrickson-dry-fly-parachute-style
The Hendrickson and Red Quill hatch marks the start of serious mayfly action here in the East. The Hendrickson begins its emergence at a time of the year when trout begin to feed a little more aggressively and anglers are getting desperate for some good dry fly action. In this tying tutorial, I'll walk through how I tie a Hendrickson dun in a parachute style. The parachute style is my favorite type of dry fly to fish due to its versatility. It sits low enough in the water to entice weary or pressured trout yet has good enough floatability to suspend a nymph off of the back for a dry-dropper setup.
With every Bugs n' Brews video I like to feature a different beer that I have while tying. There are few things more relaxing than enjoying a good brew on a Friday night while whipping up a couple of bugs! In this video I cracked open a beer from Noble Stein Brewing Company called Gone for 5 Years (and counting). This is a West-Coast style triple IPA that comes in at a whopping 10% ABV. Gone for 5 Years (and counting) is a piney, earthy, hop forward beer with huge aroma and flavor!

Summertime Float Trip | Pennsylvania Fly Fishing

Floating trout waters in the summertime is something that is typical out West, but not quite so common in the East. There are occasions though when summer thunderstorms create opportunities to take advantage of the high water and break out the raft. In this video we were pounded by some heavy rains which allowed us to do a float trip on one of our favorite trout streams in our 3-person raft. Ho...

    I've been a Fishpond fan for years and after fishing yesterday for a long time with my waist pack, I left the outing thinking about switching because I'm feeling dragged down by that system. It is great too but at 5' 3" I'm holding it up to wand to a spot at times. Your video has completely helped me get a better idea of it's proc/cons and I'll probably purchase one. I like that if I decide to to a long haul, I can get the compatible backpack you mentioned. I saw these at a fly shop today and checking reviews now. THANK YOU for sharing - appreciate ya!

    It takes a lot of guts backpacking in grizzly country, especially by yourself. You can really learn a lot from the comments, but in my opinion you did good. I do a lot of solo backpacking in Colorado, we may not have the grizz as we know, but tooth and claw exist. If a camp fire is permitted, they’re nice to have as a companion, there is something about a campfire that makes you feel a little more comfortable when being alone. As more time passes through the country your ability to figure things out starts to line up. Anticipating the inevitable can help when in the outdoors, we can prepare all we want but it’s our experience that can set us up for the next thing. Great fish!!

    This is great information...but I'm surprised you didn't include the materials for those flies anywhere in the video or the blog post. For the nymph....what material are you using for that dorsal stripe? Does the abdomen have a rib? Have you bent that hook upwards or do you buy them like that? What's your preferred material for that collar hackle? Are you fishing it weighted or is that a glass bead (since it's a dry-dropper)?

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin 4 місяці тому

      These are great questions! I am still refining this pattern but will do a separate video and blog post in the future on how to tie this. As for your questions: -Dorsal stripe is a strand of white thread. It is secured with a rib for the abdomen. -for the collar hackle, I actually used starling feathers that I had on hand but dyed black or dark brown hen hackle would be fine too. -i tie them both weighted and lightly-weighted. Ive found that the light ones can be supported by a slate drake dry since it is a larger fly. Hope this answers all your questions!

They very politely asked us if they could watch the Penn State game; we obliged. They were some of the best people we ever stayed with at that lodge (I've been going there for 35+ years), they shared with my son and me all kinds of smoked meats, cheeses, and fish. It’s a little late, but that plastic piece on the original lanyard is meant to take a magnetic net keeper. Once loaded with the weight of a net, it’s far more comfortable. Also, Trout Hunter and Varivas spools fit in the tippet holders. The best feature of it is the magnetic deck that lays out in front when opened. This thing is really meant for working with the smallest of flies. 20 - 26. Thanks for the review!
